Poll results: Favorite new comedy

And the nominees were: 2 Broke Girls, Free Agents New Girl, Suburgatory, Up All Night and Whitney.

So, how did He vs. She on TV readers vote? It was a tie! 2 Broke Girls and New Girl  got the same amount of love, which means it's up to us to declare a winner. While we think both shows are totes hilarious, our vote goes to New Girl. You just can't "suppress the Jess!"

Her week in review (w/o 9/25)

Let me just start by saying I think I'd be happy if all channels aired nothing but The Vampire Diaries and New Girl at all times. I love these shows! They are, to steal Penny's word from Happy Endings, a-mah-zing. But there are many other shows to watch, and you know I'm watching 'em. So here's my rundown for the week.

Best shower scene: Don't get any ideas. On Modern Family, Gloria was yelling at Jay about coddling their dog, Stella, as he was lathering up in the shower. Cut to near Jay's ankles, where the adorable pooch was sitting on the shower floor. "What?" Jay said. "She tries to drink the water. It's funny!" Agreed. And so is this show.

Cutest fight scene: On The Big Bang Theory, the usually unemotional Sheldon was not too happy when Leonard was speaking fondly about Sheldon's equally socially awkward friend, Amy Farrah Fowler (you know, Blossom). Cue Sheldon, wearing a flannel bathrobe and train conductor hat, karate chopping Leonard in the shoulder. "She is not for you...Not. For. You."  Aww Sheldon. We love you even more than we already did. Bazinga!

Best verbal rally: This could also be called the most ridiculous conversation ever. On How I Met Your Mother, check out the back and forth that happens when Lily tells Barney what he can do if he wins the bet they've made. Lily: I will let you touch one boob. Barney: Both boobs. Lily: Just one. Barney: Touch and squeeze. Lily: Just touch. Barney: Touch and motorboat. Lily: Just touch. Barney: Honka honka? Lily: Barney. Barney: Just touch. Lily: Just touch. Barney: For one hour. Lily: For one second. Barney: For 20 minutes, both boobs. Lily: 20 seconds, one boob. Barney: Four minutes, both boobs, three squeezes. Lily: One minute, one boob, one squeeze. Barney: Deal.     And he almost won the bet, but Lily distracted him with something. I'll give you two guesses. 

Best celebrity dancing moment: No, not Nancy Grace pulling a Janet Jackson. On Jersey Shore, Snooki heads to the bar of a restaurant to drink away her sorrows the day after her visiting boyfriend Gionni left her in Florence. Then she starts to bust a move. Alone. In the middle of a restaurant. In the middle of the day. "I'm heartbroken. So let me dance!" she yells at the restaurant patrons. We've all been there, right? After a tough break up, sometimes you just gotta dance it out. Snooki also tried to forget her pain another way: hooking up with Vinny that night. Oh Vinny, you used to be my favorite.

The "Dude, that's harsh" award: This goes to Captain Kragen on Law & Order: SVU. Fresh off Detective Elliot Stabler leaving, Kragen tells Detective Stabler: "Elliot's not coming back, Liv...Let him go. And you can start by cleaning up his desk. We can't keep it as a shrine." Dude - I mean Captain, Sir. That was harsh.

Quote of the week: Any idea what character blurted out this doozy? "When a pony does a good deed, he gets a horn and he becomes a unicorn, and then he poops out cotton candy until he forgets he's magical, and then his horn falls off. And black unicorns, they become zebras." That would be Britney from Glee, who else? Heather Morris delivers Britney's ridiculous lines so perfectly in this show, I may have to devote an entire category to "Britney's quote of the week." We'll see.

His week in review (w/o 9/25)

Well, another week is in the books, and it was a good one. Well, it was good for some shows. Some others? Not so much.

Worst 2^nd episode: This distinction goes to Castle. The super hero plot was brutal, sorry. And seriously ABC, we don’t care about Alexis and her class schedule. Does Beckett need to get shot every other week to make this interesting? This week it was as if none of that even happened. Total letdown. But hey, at least we got to see Martha dressed up as King Lear…

This show is doomed, and I don’t care: After two episodes ABC’s Charlie’s Angels is not in good shape (wow, ABC is batting a thousand right now). This week’s plot was pretty slow and I’m finding it hard to believe they are going to be able to keep this thing going. Because it is Angels, people will continue to watch for a few weeks, but unless they step their game up this one could be a goner.

Made me laugh: New Girl followed up a solid pilot with another great episode this week. I was definitely concerned with how the writers would handle the transition from Coach to Winston but they pulled it off. Schmidt and Nick put it solid performances again and are showing that they create a great team with Jess. Best scene was when all 5 (Roommates, Jess, Cece) all crammed into the car as they pumped Jess up to get her stuff back. “Schmidt happens”. Classic.

Please be better this week: Pan Am really needs to be better this week. It was decent at best last week, but I was hoping for something better. Like I said last week it’s a great concept for a show. I’m pulling for it.

Biggest miscalculation: This one goes to myself. I decided to go back and watch the pilot of Revenge this week on demand. This show is ridiculously good. I totally underestimated how awesome it is to watch someone take people who have wronged them to task. Especially wealthy people who think they are better than everyone else. News flash Hamptons – Emily Thorne is going to tear you down. And we’re all going to enjoy watching.

Her Tuesday must-watch

Not only did He beat me to announcing New Girl as Tuesday's must-watch, he also stole my intro line! How can you not love a show where the awkwardly-adorable main character writes theme songs for herself? I'm totally devoting some free time - when not posting for all of you - on my own little ditty. Who's that girl who watches all the TV and writes about it and stuff...it's Her/Me! Okay, it needs some work.

Seriously though, I cannot wait for another kicka$$ episode of what looks to be one of the Fall's top new shows. Zooey Deschanel is hilarious and lovable as Jess. And I can't wait to see how her individual relationships with her three male roomies develop. Could one of them be a love interest? It's just too bad Coach has to leave us so soon. (See him on Happy Endings tomorrow night!) I would've enjoyed watching Jess teach him how to talk to women without him yelling back in their faces - "I don't care!" Classic Coach.

Here's hoping tonight's episode also includes the cast singing a song from Dirty Dancing. Or at the very least, a long walk with a watermelon.

His Tuesday must-watch

Who's that girl? It's Jess! And she's back for night #2 of what is already taking off as a hit new comedy, The New Girl (FOX, 9/8c).

I guess I should have known this show was going to be a gold mine when I saw that Liz Meriweather was the brains of the operation. In 2011, Meriweather wrote the hilarious screenplay for "No Strings Attached", which starred Ashton Kutcher and Natalie Portman (if you haven't seen this get it on your Netflix queue ASAP). The movie was just one great line after another, and Meriweather is back at it again with The New Girl.

For those of you that missed the pilot, Jess (Zooey Deschanel) is quite a character. She's quirky, fun, sometimes annoying yet very entertaining. She even creates songs about herself. Who does that?

Partner her up with her three male roommates (Nick - the emotional one, Schmidt - the d-bag/wannabe player, Coach - the athletic guy with no idea how to deal with women) and you have quite the combination. The pilot got great ratings last week so here's to hoping for a repeat performance.

His week in review

Welcome back TV! And welcome to the program our He vs. She on TV blog. It's been quite a week, and my DVR has gotten quite a workout. Here are some of my highlights:

Quickest prison exit: This one goes out to my boy Steve McGarrett, with an honorable mention to the writers of Hawaii Five-0. As you all remember, season one ended on a major cliffhanger with McGarrett heading to prison, framed by Wo Fat for the governor's murder. Season two kicked off with the writers saying "Crap, McGarrett's in prison and no one else can carry this show for more than one episode on their own...he needs to get out now!". Congrats Steve.

Worst nickname sequence: The New Girl's Schmidt and his buddy Benjamin at the bar. Did Schmidt really call him "It's all about the Benjamin"? Yes, yes he did. Was this only after Ben yelled across the bar "Holy Schmidt! It's Schmidt"? Yes, yes it was. Is FOX planning on releasing the final total of dollar bills in the "Douche-bag Jar" at the end of the season? If so, we're taking bets.

Most obvious lie: Of course she remembered everything Castle! You saved her, you cried and you told her you loved her. Women don't forget things like that. Ever. Especially not Kate Beckett. Not only does she remember it, she has replayed it 7,000 times over in her head. Don't worry though, I'm sure you'll find a way to mess things up. Otherwise we all wouldn't have something to complain about every week. Get it together, bro.

Most obvious scene: Kate's lie had to be called out on its own, however the most obvious scene goes to the car bombing incident 2 minutes in to Charlie's Angels. We hadn't met Minka Kelly's character yet. There can only be 3 angels. Whenever they show anyone turning on a car in a TV show or movie, it is going to blow up. It's a rule. You know it. I know it. The writers know it.

Best night: A lot of intriguing new shows and a lot of premieres of some favorites this week. Tough to choose which night was best, but I'm going to have to go with Monday. For me it really kicked off the Fall season and two of my top shows (Five-0 and Castle) did not fail to entertain.
