His Week In Review (w/o 10/16)

Here's my take on what took place this week (good, bad and ugly):

Best shirt: This obviously goes to Han from 2 Broke Girls for his "Talk to the Han" t-shirt he showed off during the girls' 90s party. Funny man. Funny shirt.

Best party: It really wasn't even close. This goes to Walden for the "feel better Alan" party he threw this week on Two and a Half Men. Relationship issues got you down? Just found out your girlfriend starred in a soft-core porn movie when she was younger? Don't worry. Just move in with a billionaire and he'll throw you a "feel better" party with tons of young, attractive women, lots of booze, various desserts and of course, "special" brownies. Well done, Walden. Well done.

If this was on NBC it would have been canceled: The 2011 World Series. Texas. St. Louis. Thousands will watch. Hundreds of millions won't care. Can we get New Girl back soon?

Most annoying non-relationship relationship: Tom and Lynette from Desperate Housewives narrowly edge out Castle and Beckett for this one. When a couple has to meet to set up their day planners for the week, you know you have problems. You're separated for a reason, Lynette. And yes, Tom had his part, but you are definitely at least 50% responsible. You weren't even happy! So you go to the yoga studio to stalk Tom's new love interest? Too bad for you it's not the shallow, smoking hot yoga instructor, but her well-educated, well-adjusted heart surgeon mother instead. The man is moving on. Just get over it already and move on yourself.

Biggest Shocker: Yes, another sports shout out. But this one goes to my alma mater, Syracuse for their awesome upset win over West Virginia on Friday night, 49-23. It was too big to leave it off this week's review.

His Sunday must-watch (10/23)

I'll tell you what I'm NOT watching tonight first. And that's Once Upon a Time. I get that it is from the creators of LOST. But a show about fairy tales? Give me a break. The first time I saw the preview for this back in the spring I was instantly turned off, and nothing has happened to bring me back around. I'm sure millions of people will watch it and love it, but it's just not for me.

As for what I actually will be watching? Obviously Desperate Housewives (9/8c on ABC). I'll admit that the whole "murder secret" plot line is getting a bit tired, but some entertaining things are happening right now. Gaby has been named head of the PTA, which can only end horribly. Susan is digging for her inner pain in a new painting class, which I'm sure will end with the murder being exposed. And Vance just had the missing person case file of Gaby's step father cross his desk. Add all that to Lynette spiraling out of control and we've had quite a good couple of weeks.

His Sunday must-watch (10/16)

Did some catching up on Desperate Housewives over the weekend, and I have to admit I'm torn on a couple of things. I'm happy this is the last season. I'm just not sure how much more of the ups and downs and manufactured drama I can take. However, I'll be sad to see the book completely closed on Wisteria Lane. The main members of this cast have provided some great drama over the last few years, and somehow it is still going strong enough to get must-watch status for tonight.

Can Mike & Susan get past yet another lie? How many relationships can survive jail time, a murder, dialysis, long distance, losing a house, an ex husband always around, the wife stripping on the internet, and another murder? I mean really, most relationships fail after just the long distance part. Now they have to get through this cover up? Poor Mike.

Add to that Bree screwing things up with Detective Vance, Lynette and Tom's incessant fighting and Gabby's inability to connect with Carols and you have quite a bit of drama going down right now. I'm sure it will all get worse before it eventually gets better, making for some juicy TV.

His Sunday must-watch (10/2)

What will I be watching tonight (in addition to the Jets/Ravens Sunday Night Football game on NBC)? Well, I'll be focusing my attention to Desperate Housewives (ABC, 9/8c).

Last week we saw how keeping the secret of Gaby's stepfather's murder was tearing the housewives apart, and was particularly hard on Susan (of course) and Lynette. The ladies agreed to keep their secret, however I'm sure they'll have to keep having more pow-wows and pep talks about this throughout the season. At the end, Bree received a creepy, but familiar note in her mailbox that read "I know what you did. It makes me sick. I'm going to tell." The same note Mary Alice received at the beginning of the show.

Look, I know what you're thinking. How can a guy switch gears from football to Housewives? Could they be more different? Surprisingly, they have a few things in common. Drama: close plays late or close calls for getting caught doing something scandalous. Scheming: play calling or some elaborate Bree/Gaby devious plan. Trash-talking: at the line of scrimmage or women behind each other's backs. I could go on, but I'll stop there for now.

His Sunday must-watch

Tonight marks the beginning of the end for one of my favorites, Desperate Housewives (9/8c on ABC). It’s sad to see the show come to an end but they started running out of storylines a couple of years ago. Hopefully there are a few juicy twists left on Wisteria Lane.

I thought Desperate would be my clear must-watch, but honestly, what I’m looking forward to the most tonight is the premiere of Pan Am (10/9c on ABC). Part of me is just really excited that Brothers & Sisters isn’t on anymore. Another part of me wishes I could have lived in the 60s and flown on old school Pan Am.

Back then flying was considered an “adventure”. And no, not because of the hassle of security lines, bag searches, extra bag fees and arriving 2 hours early only to have your flight delayed. It was an adventure because it was considered an experience – you’ve all seen the old school Southwest or Pan Am ads. Travel just isn’t like that anymore, and this show promises to bring a glimpse into that adventure back to us.

On top of all that it’s got a relatively young, nondescript cast of up-and-comers like Mike Vogel (from The Help), who plays captain Dean Lowrey and Australian soap star Margot Robbie who plays Laura Cameron, the youngest addition to the Pan Am crew. Mix that in with a little random Christina Ricci resurgence and you have an exciting new premiere! I think it’s worth a look.

Her Sunday must-watch

Tonight I'll be watching a few shows, all for different reasons.

Desperate Housewives: Because it's the first episode of the final season. Sure, it peaked several years ago, but like that last bite on a dinner plate, I can't just leave it there after coming this far. Even if I have had more than enough.

The Good Wife: Excited to see what happens after Alicia (Emmy-winner Julianna Margulies) has given into her feelings for boss/longtime friend Will (Josh Charles). I'm confident this premier episode won't let Willicia supporters down.

Pan Am: It's new. It's set in the 60s. And it stars pint-size Christina Ricci. I'm intrigued.

But my must-watch for tonight has to be Dirty Soap (10/9c on E!).  It's a behind-the-scenes look at the lives of some of the hottest soap stars around. And as the promo says, "When lies, backstabbing and scandal are your day job, real life can get a little complicated." My prediction is this show becomes huge. Whether you watch soaps or not, this E! reality show is sure to entertain. No prizes. No voting out of a house or off an island. No Kardashian sisters. Just good, old fashioned, real-life drama. Sign me up.
