His Friday must-watch (10/14)

So far this season I'm definitely liking the Nikita, Michael and Birkoff combination (8/7c, CW). I wasn't sure how things were going to start off this year. Percy locked away. Michael and Nikita on the run. Alex back at Division. Amanda running the show over there. A lot of new things to pull together for a 2nd season.

Somehow they've pulled it off. Last week was pretty good, other than the telegraphed "one of the main characters is in a life-threatening situation, but obviously they're not going to kill him off because that would destroy the show" plot. Alex looks possessed (I miss last year's Alex), and she and Nikita are headed for some serious showdowns throughout the year.

The show will continue to hold DVR status and get my must-watch status for tonight.

Her Friday must-watch (10/14)

Alright, guys. A Gifted Man (8/9c on CBS) is hurting in the ratings. Let's give it a boost tonight! Like the lead character.  Like the medical stories so far. Not crazy about the dead wife. Like Meatloaf said, two out of three ain't bad!

His Thursday must-watch (10/13)

Tonight I'm going to check out a new show this year that I haven't really gotten into yet. It's gotten some mixed reviews, but I'm willing to give Whitney (9:30/8:30c, NBC) a shot.

It's true - NBC and I don't have the greatest track record this year. I also think that their comedies have not been the greatest over the past few years. So why even entertain the idea of watching this show? I think Whitney Cummings is a pretty funny writer/creator, and I think that can carry over to her as an actress. I've also already liked 2 comedies this year (New Girl, 2 Broke Girls).

So maybe it is the year of the comedies that focus on some type of girl? Maybe I'm going through a phase. If Whitney wins me over tonight we might have a problem.

Her Wednesday must-watch (10/12)

Happy Wednesday everybody! And what could be a better end to hump day than a little Happy Endings (9:30/8:30c, ABC)? Somewhere in fictional Colorado TV land, Michael Scott's words echo off the mountains: That's what sheeee saaaaaiiidddd!

Reasons to watch this show:
-I've never heard someone who's watched this show say they didn't like it.
-Coach! Damons Wayans Jr. is just a part of this great ensemble cast.
-Unlike other shows over the past few years that have attempted the ensemble cast route to ratings a la Friends, (Perfect Couples, Traffic Light), this one is connecting with audiences and critics alike.
-Funny lady Megan Mullally is guest starring tonight as Penny's mom. A-mah-zing!
-Last but not least, it's my must-watch, biiiitch!

His Wednesday must-watch (10/12)

It's Wednesday, which means two amazing things:
1) More than half the week is over
2) Revenge is on tonight (ABC, 10/9c)

I'm still a little shell shocked that I find this show so entertaining after being skeptical out of the gate. Here were are in the middle of October and it has gotten must-watch status for 2 consecutive weeks. That's crazy.

I really just can't get enough. If this show was on every night, I'd watch it. Is Emily going to run out of characters' lives to ruin? Yes. Will there eventually be an episode where we get more backstory and filler, and less devious scheming? Probably tonight. Will the show only be able to survive a season or two because the story line will get old? Maybe. Do I care anymore? Nope. Hooked.

How to be...canceled

She called it! Well, kind of. Technically, How to be a Gentleman was not the first show of the season to get canned (The Playboy Club, Free Agents and H8R beat it to the punch.) Again, technically, it hasn't even officially been canceled - yet. But CBS has moved this lackluster performing series to Saturday night and is halting production, all before its third episode has even aired. Next inevitable step, cancellation. Thank you, CBS for listening to me. Now, about Ashton's ratty hair...

His Tuesday must-watch (10/11)

Overall a fairly slow night for TV in my opinion, so I'll be doing some serious catching up on my DVR for most of the night (behind on Charlie's Angels, Person of Interest and Gossip Girl). It'll probably be a make or break episode for Angels and Person of Interest so we'll see how things go with last week's episodes. Sounds like most have bailed on these already.

As for my must-watch? Tonight it's a show that many of you already watch and would probably be appalled that I don't - Sons of Anarchy (10/9c on FX). I decided to take a peek at the website today to see what all the fuss is about. It reads "...illegally thriving arms business. The seduction of money, power, and blood." Count me in.

Now I'm not a big motorcycle person, but the word on the street is that you don't have to be to enjoy this show. It's received nothing but rave reviews, plus it's on FX, so it doesn't get cancelled for making parents angry (here's to you, NBC!). Sure, I'm 3 seasons and a few episodes behind, but that's why they invented Quickster, er..Netflix. Let's give it a shot.

Her Tuesday must-watch (10/11)

Whoopsie. Looks like I was a week early in giving Tim Allen's new show a shoutout. So here it is again, for real this time, my must-watch for the night:

Tonight, sitcom icon Tim the Toolman Taylor returns to primetime TV in Last Man Standing (8/7c on ABC). Everyone with me now: Urrrra! While I'm not completely sold on this show based on the promos, I'll definitely give it a shot in honor of Home Improvement's Tim Allen. And Jonathan Taylor Thomas.

His Response to Her Challenge (10/1-10/10)

Alright. She challenged. I watched. And I'm glad I did. I have now confirmed that I haven't missed much over the last 4 years of not watching Grey's, and have also guaranteed that I won't tune in again.

Two seconds into my first episode back and Meredith & Derek are lying in bed fighting. What season is this? One? Three? Oh no, it's 8 and they're still at it. They are like the annoying, boring version of Ross & Rachel. Karev is still only a 5th year in med school? How is that possible? Chief isn't chief anymore, so I guess that's news. Slow day at the hospital? Don't fret. A timely human stampede at the convention center can give our favorite residents something to do for the next 45 minutes. Time for some zombie triage! And really, the forced male bonding at the site of Derek's new house? Please.

I suppose there are a few things I missed:
- Shepherd and Grey got married? But are they together?
- McSteamy is a McDad?
- Shepherd was chief, and quit, and now is building a deck on a new house?
- Who is the cute new girl, Kepner?

I get it. I can see how some people find this show entertaining. There's a good amount of drama and the writers do a great job of intermingling every single relationship (seriously, have they all hooked up/dated?). Fans can relate with the characters, and the show has been around forever. So enjoy it if you're a fan. But for me? I'll continue to pass.

Her Monday must-watch (10/10)

What, they couldn't get Harold, too? Tonight's must-watch (How I Met Your Mother, 8/7c on CBS) features Kumar himself (Kal Penn) in a guest starring role alongside old Harold & Kumar costar Neil Patrick Harris. That's right, serving as associate director of the White House Office of Public Engagement (Kal's position after taking a break from acting aka offing himself on House) just couldn't compare to the allure of Neil Patrick Harris. But what can, really?

In addition to this brounion, I'm also excited to see Kal's character Kevin make the leap from from Robin's therapist to her love interest. Could he finally help Robin get over NPH's character Barney? I'm guessing no. Again, who can, really?

There are only 2 things we know for sure: 1)There are frozen mini White Castle burgers in my future, and 2)Kal is NOT the mother.

His Monday must-watch (10/10)

Last week you all told us in our poll that 2 Broke Girls was one of the top new comedies. I didn't believe you, so I decided to check out the pilot this weekend. Early returns? Pretty funny. Funny enough that I'm going to make it my must-watch for tonight.

Of course I find Kat Dennings (Max) just a little annoying. Of course I think that the "Upper East Side socialite broke and waiting tables at a dive diner" thing can get old quickly. But based on your votes and what I've heard from some friends I gave it a shot. Just like that it earned DVR, and must-watch status.

I'm sure man of you will be tuning in tonight as well. Here's a sneak peek at what we're in for.

Her Sunday must-watch (10/9)

Alright, tonight I'm going with my same pick from last week: The Good Wife (9/8c on CBS). I feel like I have to work hard to sway the younger TV fans (read: those of you younger than 60) out there to check this show out. Why do I think this?

-Penny on Happy Endings made a crack a couple of weeks back about not watching The Good Wife because she's not old. Penny, I love you, you're a-mah-zing, but you're totes wrong here.

-My local morning radio DJ said this is one of the only shows he watches. He's sixty-something.

-It airs on CBS, which has an average audience member age of 70. Okay, I made that up. But it's probably closer to that than 30, is all I'm sayin'.

So, if you're on the younger side, check this show out tonight. What else are you doing on a Sunday eve? And if you're on the older, er, more mature side, add this show to your must-watch list if it isn't already. You know you're already watching everything else on CBS.

Her week in review (w/o 10/2)

It's almost time for Sunday night shows, so let's jump right in to my week in review.

Best quote: This one's a tie between Max and Caroline from 2 Broke Girls. (Note: If you're not already watching this show, add it to your scheduled DVR recordings stat.) Max to Caroline, when asked if she wants to get her nails done: "I have my own day of luxury already booked. I'm doing laundry and then the tasting menu at Wendy's." Caroline to a random at a bar who pulled her hair: "Those aren't extensions, biiitch!" I'm not sure which girl I heart more.

Best Brittany S. Pierce quote: I mentioned last week I might have to give this character her own quote of the week section, and she sure earned it in this week's episode of Glee. When questioning Rachel about not voting for her for Class President, "So you're cool with flushing McKinley High's future down the magical poop-stealing water chair?" I wonder how many more poop-related lines Brittany has in her arsenal. Keep 'em coming, girl.

Best comeback: Weddings can be emotional. Juat ask Nick on New Girl. (Or anyone who's ever been to a wedding, for that matter.) But this dude went from "locking" himself in a photo booth, crying hysterically, to busting out a slow-mo chicken dance to a Phil Collins classic. I may have even joined in myself, alone in my living room, just to see if I could do it. I may have. You have no proof.

Biggest lesson learned: This one comes from Darryl on The Office, who explained to Andy that his basement used to be, but is no longer, fabulous. "You can't air out a basement. And taco air is heavy." It so is.

You won me over award: I wasn't sure how I felt about Alex, Whitney's boyfriend on Whitney. But this week he had me lol'ing with his impersonation of Whitney. "MSG? Seriously? Like restaurants actually have to advertise not putting poison in their food?" Okay, this one is 90% delivery, so if you didn't catch this episode this week you have to check it out On Demand. I demand it.

Next to go, please: How to be a Gentleman. I really don't know what to say. I can understand why the idea for this show seemed appealing. But after it was cast and a pilot was actually screened, how did this show actually make it on the air? I think CBS is playing a joke on us. The network knows so many of its shows lead the rankings each week, they wanted to see if people would actually watch anything they put out there. And you know what, I am. Until you cancel it. So please, I beg of you, put me out of my misery.

His Sunday must-watch (10/9)

Huge day for football with my Patriots facing off against the rival Jets this afternoon. Always an entertaining week of trash talk leading up to game day and the football itself never fails to disappoint. As is my Sunday ritual I plan to pretty much camp out and watch football for most of the day, although this time I'm in enemy territory watching the Pats/Jets game in NYC amidst a sea of Jets fans. I'll have to keep my own personal trash talking to a minimum.

Hopefully I'll be in a good mood when the game is over, but you never know. Either way, I'll be tuning in to my must-watch of the night, Pan Am (10/9 c, ABC). As I mentioned earlier this weekend, Pan Am rebounded nicely from a relatively slow pilot with a nice 2nd episode. The backstory on a few of the characters (Dean/Bridget, Laura & Kate) started to get filled in, and a new romance (Dean & Collette?) may have kicked off. All topped off with the sass of Christina Ricci's character Maggie Ryan. Not too bad. Let's hope the Pan Am crew can keep it going.
