There's a new funny "it girl" in TV land. Okay two, if you count Zooey Deschanel, which of course I do. But she's not the subject of this post. Who's that girl? It's Molly! Well, Melissa McCarthy from Mike & Molly, I mean.
Truth be told, I never got into Mike & Molly when it first came out. But then I saw Bridesmaids, and I thought maybe I should give her show another chance. Mccarthy was the funniest part of this film, and that's saying a lot because it was absofreakinglutely hilarious. Then I watched as she won an Emmy earlier this year for her role as Molly in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series category. Again I thought, okay, maybe I should tune in. What sealed the deal, though, was seeing McCarthy host this past week of Saturday Night Live. Not only did the show receive solid ratings, it was one of the funniest I've seen in a long time. Check out one of my favorite sketches of the night here.
So, Mike & Molly has now been upgraded to DVR status. And Mike better watch out, because I think I just may be falling in love with Molly.

Blasts from the SNL past
Three former Saturday Night Live funny ladies are now making us laugh with their weeknight sitcoms: Maya Rudolph (Ava on Up All Night), Casey Wilson (Penny on Happy Endings) and Ana Gasteyer (Sheila aka the shouting neighbor on Suburgatory).
Don’t want to wait until next week to see these ladies again? Check out the links below for some SNL sketches you may remember.
By the way, who’s your favorite of the three sitcom characters? My vote goes to Penny. As we learned last night on the Happy Endings season premiere, it’s “the year of Penny!” – which you know is awesome, because it’s like, four times longer than the “summer of George.”
